At 2:34 in the morning of March 14, 1970, Jim and Ruth welcomed their first child, Stephen Mark, into the world at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, 6701 N Charles St, Towson, MD.

Long before “the Lynch’s Cabin” at Green Valley Lake, the Peters family from Red Hill Lutheran School allowed Jim to use their cabin located on a bay along the south shore of Big Bear Lake. Here is old-school parenting, Jim catches some sun on the Peters’ dock with his back turned to Steve as he plays with lake muck from a rowboat.

On the evening of February 5, 1975, Jim and Ruth welcomed their third son Timothy Paul into the world at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), in Orange, CA.

After three boys, on the afternoon of May 1, 1978, Jim and Ruth finally welcomed a girl, Deborah Ruth, into the world at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), in Orange, CA. This photo was taken on the front lawn of the Tustin house, perhaps on the day of her baptism at Red Hill Lutheran Church. The fencing behind them was an attempt to keep the boys and the neighbor kids from cutting between the Neumann and Gill houses. The Gills replaced the Thompsons after they moved to Nipomo, CA. Undoubtedly, the fence was paid little heed!

The original black convertible top had been replaced in white and the pinstripes on either side were repainted to match.

Much like the Peters family before them, the Lynch family had children who attended Red Hill Lutheran School. They liked Jim and offered the use of their cabin at 33884 Cedar Oak Ln, Green Valley Lake, CA. Dubbed “The Lynch’s Cabin,” it became a place of much family lore.

In 1986, after a brief stay at a rental house at 1897 E Landen Street in Camarillo, the family purchased this house at 91 Camino Castenada. As of 2025, the family had owned the home for 39 years. The large tree along the left side of the driveway was removed before the photo was taken, but the driveway had not yet been replaced. The famous olive tree is on the right.
In 1986, apparently the family had not yet decided to take all photos in front of the olive tree. Notice the Datsun B210 station wagon from Grandma Neumann in the street.

In 1996: Amanda (pregnant with Matt), Steve, Ruth, and Jim outside Steve’s first assignment at the Central Los Angeles CHP office. Jim is sporting the first of many CHP tops. This was the original office used in the filming of the “CHiPs” TV series. The building has since been replaced, but it remains located inside the southwest cloverleaf of the I-110 and I-10 interchange in downtown Los Angeles. The patrol car was a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, Steve’s all time favorite patrol vehicle.
